Heart & Home from the Cottage π

Some photographs tell a story without saying a single word.
This is one of those photographs.
It was taken in 2013 while my daughter, April, and I were visiting my other daughter, Shelby, in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida.
No one posed.
No one smiled for the camera.
We simply placed our hands together across the table.
Looking back now, I realize this picture became something much bigger than a snapshot.
It became a reminder.
Life moves so quickly.
Children grow up.
They begin careers.
They move away.
They build lives of their own.
Yet somehow, a mother’s heart never measures love by distance.
Whether they’re across town or across the country, they’re still your babies.
As the years have passed, I’ve watched both of my daughters become incredible women.
Shelby has always had a creative way of seeing life. She’s the one who affectionately named our little home “The Cottage,” a name that has stayed with us ever since. Today, when our family says, “We’re coming to the Cottage,” it feels like so much more than a house.π
It’s home.
April has a heart for helping others through her work as a speech-language pathologist. Watching her care for children and families reminds me that kindness has a beautiful way of multiplying through generations. π
As a mom, there isn’t much more you can ask for than seeing your children grow into compassionate, caring adults.
Living with fibromyalgia has taught me that life isn’t always measured by the big moments.
Sometimes it’s measured by the quiet ones.
A phone call.
A hug.
A visit home.
Or simply reaching across the table to hold the hands that once fit inside your own.
Looking at this photograph today reminds me that while wrinkles may appear, miles may separate us, and seasons may change, love doesn’t grow old.
It simply grows deeper.
If your mom is still here, hold her hand.
If your daughter lives nearby, make time for coffee.
If she lives far away, call her today.
And if someone you love now lives only in your heart, hold tightly to the memories that still warm your soul.
They are gifts no amount of time can ever take away.
Thank you for spending a few moments here with me at the Cottage.
Until next time…
May your table always be surrounded by love,
your heart filled with gratitude,
and your home filled with simple moments worth remembering.
I’ll save you a seat here at the Cottage. ππ»
With love,
Shelia π»π
